CALDWELL, Idaho — Four people, including a small child, were hospitalized after a collision on Interstate 84 in Canyon County Monday afternoon.

The crash happened on the eastbound side of the highway near milepost 29 in Caldwell.

Idaho State Police say 79-year-old Michael Tinck tried to turn left through an emergency crossover just before the wreck occurred. Tinck's Dodge Caravan was hit by an eastbound GMC Traverse driven by 27-year-old Eliza M. Alvarez of Caldwell.

Tinck, Alverez, and two passengers in Alvarez' vehicle - 27-year-old Jose Arreola and a child - were all injured in the collision.

Alvarez was wearing her seatbelt, but Tinck and Arreola were not, according to police. The child was strapped into a carseat, but the seat had not been buckled into the car.

All four were taken by ambulance to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. Their current conditions are unknown.

The crash partially blocked lanes of I-84 for about an hour and a half.
