Payette jail deputy hurt during inmates' escape attempt

The deputy suffered cuts to his head that required stitches, officials said.

Inmates Christopher Eversole, 32, of Weiser, Mason Hughes, 21, of Parma and John Lott, 26, of New Plymouth were all involved in the attempted escape from the Payette County Jail.

PAYETTE -- A deputy at the Payette County Jail was hurt Sunday when several inmates tried to break out of the jail.

The escape attempt happened shortly after midnight Sunday morning.

According to the Payette County Sheriff's Office, three inmates tried to escape, injuring one of the detention deputies at the jail in the process.

Inmates Christopher Eversole, 32, of Weiser, Mason Hughes, 21, of Parma and John Lott, 26, of New Plymouth were all involved in the attempted escape.

Lt. Andy Creech said the inmates never actually made it outside of the jail building before they were stopped.

The deputy suffered several cuts to his head, which required stitches. He was taken to a local hospital, then released the same day.

The attempted escape is under investigation by the Payette Police Department.
