PAYETTE -- A deputy at the Payette County Jail was hurt Sunday when several inmates tried to break out of the jail.
The escape attempt happened shortly after midnight Sunday morning.
According to the Payette County Sheriff's Office, three inmates tried to escape, injuring one of the detention deputies at the jail in the process.
Inmates Christopher Eversole, 32, of Weiser, Mason Hughes, 21, of Parma and John Lott, 26, of New Plymouth were all involved in the attempted escape.
Lt. Andy Creech said the inmates never actually made it outside of the jail building before they were stopped.
The deputy suffered several cuts to his head, which required stitches. He was taken to a local hospital, then released the same day.
