NAMPA -- A Nampa teacher who had an ongoing sexual relationship with one of his underage students is headed to prison.
Tomas Fisher, 28, was sentenced Monday to 11 years in prison. He will have to spend at least three years behind bars before becoming eligible for parole.
Prosecutors say Fisher was teaching Spanish at Skyview High School when his relationship with the 16-year-old girl began. He told detectives the pair met up for sex at his home, a movie theater and a Target parking lot.
The sexual contact between the teacher and student was discovered after Fisher resigned from his position at Skyview High.
The teen and her family have filed a tort claim for $1 million against the high school and Nampa School District, alleging administrators failed to protect the girl from a predator.
An attorney in the civil case said a supervisor at Skyview once walked in on Fisher and the teen alone in a dark, locked room, but didn't do anything.
Fisher pleaded guilty to sexual battery on a minor in December.
Upon his release from prison, Fisher will have to register as a sex offender.
