Meridian woman charged with arson in 700-acre fire near Lucky Peak

A multi-agency investigation led to Wednesday's arrest in connection with the fire that shut down Highway 21.

Sara D. Schaeffer has been charged with arson in the fire that burned around 700 acres near Lucky Peak.

BOISE COUNTY - A Meridian woman has been arrested after being accused of intentionally starting the fire that started Sunday near Lucky Peak Reservoir and burned several hundred acres.

The Mile Marker 21 Fire and Highway 21 Fire burned about 700 acres on private and public lands before it was fully contained Monday night. The fire was first reported at about 4 p.m. Sunday near Robie Creek Road, prompting the closure of both lanes of Highway 21.

The Boise County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation. After working with investigators from several local, state and federal agencies, a suspect was identified.

On Wednesday, the Boise County Sheriff's Office, working with the Ada County Sheriff's Office, contacted and arrested 37-year-old Sara D. Schaeffer. She was booked into the Ada County Jail on two unrelated Ada County warrants and was charged with a felony count of third-degree arson by Boise County.

The investigation continues, with Schaeffer's arraignment scheduled for Thursday.
