She may not be from the Gem State originally, but that doesn’t stop Meteorologist Rachel Garceau from considering herself an Idahoan! After growing up in the Seattle area, Rachel moved to Idaho when she became a student at NNU in Nampa (though when she first enrolled, it was NNC, so she jokes that should tell you a little something about her age!). After earning a  bachelor's degree in Mass Communications, Rachel accepted an Associate  Producer position at a local television station in 2003, and has continued growing her broadcast career in the Treasure Valley ever since. She joined  KTVB’s First Alert Weather team as a broadcast meteorologist in May of 2023.

While Rachel started behind the scenes as a producer, she eventually moved in front of the camera as a news anchor and fill-in weather anchor. After  spending some time on the green screen, Rachel realized she had a passion  for the “why” behind the weather, and especially for the challenges presented  by forecasting Idaho’s four distinct seasons. So, in 2017, she took her love of  weather to the next level and returned to school to earn her Broadcast &  Operational Meteorology Certification from Mississippi State University.

Like most Idahoans, Rachel and her family spend a lot of time in the great  outdoors, so she understands that weather plays a huge role in the lives of  people in the Gem State. She loves knowing that she plays a part in helping  people plan their day (and their wardrobe)!

Outside of work, Rachel is a devoted wife to her husband of 20 years,  Kristian, and mom to two teenagers and two fur babies (dogs Max and  Charlie). She is an avid reader, a lover of coffee, and a reluctant runner who  makes it a goal to complete at least one 10k each year. She and Kristian  enjoy planning family trips to Lagoon or the beaches of southern California,  and enjoy getting out on the water for a paddleboarding session whenever  they can.
