Police looking for man suspected of breaking into sleeping women's homes, stealing underwear among other items

BPD detectives identified Jacob Smart as the suspect in a series of 2023 burglaries where he stalked and entered women's homes while they were asleep.

BOISE, Idaho — Jacob Smart, 38, was identified by the Boise Police Department (BPD) detectives as the suspect in a series of 2023 burglaries where the victims were stalked before having their homes entered while they were asleep.

Detectives are actively searching for Smart.

BPD said in a news release that Smart has a $500,000 nationwide warrant issued for his arrest. He is described as being 5' 11' and around 200 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He is believed to have traveled through the Pacific Northwest. 

Five separate burglaries were reported between August and October 2023 in Idaho. Police said he forced his way into some of the homes and stole a gun, an ID, debit and credit cards, and women's underwear.

Police also said in one of the burglaries, he moved the victim's items around. In another, he stole keys and was later caught on camera trying to enter the house with those keys, but the owner had already changed their locks.

The news release stated during a search warrant in Oregon for Smart, they found multiple stolen guns and several Idaho IDs of the victims, among other various items. 

Police said Smart is aware that a warrant is out for his arrest and that he's on the run. Smart is considered armed and dangerous.
