Idaho pays tribute to former Congressman Orval Hansen

Idahoans paid their final respects Monday to former congressman Orval Hansen.

On Monday, the state of Idaho paid tribute to former Idaho Congressman Orval Hansen.

Hansen passed away earlier this month.

Hansen lay in state Tuesday morning inside the Idaho Capitol.

Friends, families and former peers spent time paying their respects to a man that served in the Idaho Legislature and the U.S. House of Representatives.

Hansen served in the U.S. House representing Idaho’s Second Congressional District from 1969 to 1975.

On the state level, Hansen served several terms in the Idaho Senate and House of Representatives from the late 1950s through the 1960s.

Before working in politics, the eastern Idaho native enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he trained in aviation. Hansen went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force Reserves where he retired as a lieutenant colonel.

Hansen's family says he will best be remembered for his love of traveling, hiking and theater.

Hansen was 91.
