CALDWELL -- A Nampa man was sentenced Tuesday to 13 years in prison for his role in a 2017 attack that left another man with broken bones.

Javier J. Garcia, 25, will be eligible for parole after serving six years.

Garcia, a member of the Sureno Mob Trece gang, assaulted the victim at the other man's home in August 2017. According to prosecutors, Garcia and two fellow members of the Sureno Mob Trece gang showed up at the victim's home and began pounding on his front door. When the man opened his door, he was thrown to the ground and beaten by Garcia and 20-year-old Jose Mejia.

The victim suffered injuries including broken bones in his leg.

Investigators say they later learned Garcia and the other gang members had been looking for the victim's relative, who was a member of the Norteno gang.

Mejia was sentenced earlier this year to 10 years in prison.

Prosecutor Bryan Taylor said he hoped other Treasure Valley gang members take note of the case.

"There is simply no place for this type of gang activity in our communities, where gang members can beat an innocent man for no apparent reason other than being related to a member of a rival gang," he said. "Hopefully, this sentence sends a message to all the gang members out there that we will find you and hold you accountable to the fullest extent of the law."
