Hello, gorgeous! Some spectacular spring weather on the way

The daily forecast from Idaho's largest, most experienced team of meteorologists.

BOISE, Idaho — Our recent streak of cool, windy, unsettled weather finally came to an end today as a strong ridge of high pressure off the west coast starts nudging eastward. That ushered in calm, dry, and mild weather from today all the way through the weekend, with the warmest temperatures of the year so far setting in by Sunday.

For Thursday, skies over SW Idaho will be clear, the wind will die down, and temperatures start to take off. In fact, we'll tack on a good 10° of warmth today over our cooler-than-average Wednesday, with temperatures reaching the mid- to upper 70s this afternoon across the Treasure Valley. In the mountains, sunshine prevails with high temps reaching the low 60s in McCall and Sun Valley.

In south-central Idaho areas, including the Magic Valley sparse, light showers popped up in the afternoon. Thus far, there hasn't been any lightning, but there's still some potential, albeit low potential, for a stray thunderstorm while we still have some daytime heating. Generally, the storm threat has remained south and east of our viewing area today.

Looking ahead to the weekend, it will be picture-perfect for all of those springtime activities like kids' sports activities, gardening, and backyard barbecuing. On Mother's Day, brunch or lunch on the patio may be in order as temperatures will climb into the mid-80s in Boise on Sunday afternoon.

Also, good news for gardeners, it looks like the threat of frost could be gone across the Boise area, as morning lows by this weekend will warm into the 50s in the Treasure Valley and will stay well above freezing long-term.
