Rare Bible on display at Saint Alphonsus

The book is one of a limited edition of 299 sets.

BOISE - Saint Alphonsus has been gifted a rare edition of the Saint John's Bible.

This book is one of a limited edition of 299 sets.

The first set was presented to Pope Benedict the 16th for the Vatican library in April 2008.

But what sets this Bible apart from others is it’s the first handwritten Bible in more than 500 years.

"People will come to it either by their draw to the word of God, to scripture, for some people it'll be a journey to look upon the art, which is really beautiful," said Jennifer Palagi, Director of Mission Integration for Saint Alphonsus.

This Bible is just one volume out of seven.

Saint Alphonsus plans on getting the other six volumes of the Bible eventually, and the set will have a permanent home in Boise.
