Pesky pothole? ACHD wants to know where it is

ACHD needs help finding potholes, so they're promoting their annual campaign called "Pothole Days."

BOISE - It's a sure sign of spring: potholes popping up all over.

April is the end of winter maintenance for the Ada County Highway District.

“And the beginning of us taking care of all of that damage that was done to the road over winter,” said ACHD spokesperson Nicole DuBois.

They’re filling the potholes that can cause damage and even be dangerous. But to keep up, ACHD needs help finding them, so they're promoting their annual campaign called "Pothole Days."

“It's an opportunity for the public to let us know where those pesky potholes are located,” DuBois said. “We have thousands of lane miles to maintain and it's very difficult for us to be everywhere at all times so we really rely on the public."

To report a pothole, you go to ACHD’s website, give the location and then ACHD sends out a crew.

“Generally, we have a 24-hour response rate on potholes, but because of this event we expect a lot of phone calls and emails from people letting us know,” DuBois said. “It could take a little bit longer and it is kind of weather permitting thing as well.”

There are some guidelines for which potholes ACHD can fill. For instance, the problem area must be in Ada County. Also, it cannot be on private property, so no parking lots.

“And state highways and freeways,” DuBois said. “And the Connector. Those sorts of things are under the jurisdiction of the transportation department."
