Great Dolphin Dunk raises money for Boys and Girls Clubs of Ada County

The annual event at Roaring Springs in Meridian is a major fundraiser for the Ada County nonprofit. It also netted some impressive prizes for the winners.

MERIDIAN - More than 10,000 tiny dolphins plunged into the Endless River at Roaring Springs on Sunday, raising money for a deserving cause.

The annual Great Dolphin Dunk is a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Ada County.

For the last 18 years, the members of the clubs get out and try to sell as many dolphins as they can. The funds raised help defer some of the costs of membership.

"We have five sites going on throughout the summer, four full-time sites in Ada County serving about 4,000 kids," said Colleen Braga, executive director of Boys and Girls Clubs of Ada County. "So kids pay about $25 for an after school membership, but the actual cost to provide services is about $500, so this helps to bridge that gap."

The first dolphins to cross the finish line net prizes for their owners.

Sunday's big first place winner was Tim Cline, who won a season pass to Roaring Springs for the rest of this season and next year.

Other winners took home prizes, including free pizza for a year and $500 cash.
