BOISE -- Centennial senior Makayla Christensen was named the girls Idaho Gatorade Player of the Year Monday morning.

Christensen, the 5A SIC player of the year and a three-time first-team all-state selection, scored 44 goals and recorded 17 assists last season.

The Patriots (19-2) won their third class 5A state championship in four years, beating Mountain View 4-0 in the final.

Christensen had a hand in all four goals, scoring two and assisting on the others.

In her prep career, Christensen scored 90 goals and recorded 33 assists, earning her a spot at the 2017 High School All-American game last December.

Off the field, Christensen has maintained a 3.84 GPA and is completing formal training to become a certified nursing assistant and an EMT.

She is headed to play for the University of Utah Utes this fall.

Christensen is the second Patriot to win the award. Sofia Huerta, who went on to become an All-American at Santa Clara and now plays professionally for the NWSL, won the award twice (2009-2010, 2010-2011).
