BOISE - Idaho's Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor has announced she will step down from her tech job to campaign full-time.
Kristin Collum announced Friday she had exited from her position at Sensus - a U.S. smart metering company - after working there for more than 20 years.
Collum is an Army veteran, who served under Colin Powell at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. She has never held elected office.
Collum faces Republican Janice McGeachin, an Idaho Falls businesswoman and former Idaho lawmaker, in the general election.
The last time Idahoans voted in a Democrat to the lieutenant governor seat was in 1976.
Idaho's lieutenant governor presides over the state Senate and serves as governor when the elected governor is out of the state. The position pays roughly $43,000 a year.
