BOISE- More than a thousand people attended the 7th annual Boise's Got Faith fundraiser at Julia Davis Park Sunday afternoon.
Boise's Got Faith is a family-focused charity event that raises funds to support Idaho children who are fighting cancer.
In many cases, those families don't have the means to cover added costs that come along with a cancer diagnosis. While health insurance covers treatment it often doesn't cover hotel stays and travel if families need to go to other cities for treatment.
Local kids with cancer were honored at the event Sunday. The goal was to give them a fun day where they could forget about their battle with cancer.
Another goal of the event is to provide support to families dealing with pediatric cancer.
"You have an immediate family of parents that have gone through it all ready in our organization," said Ryan Stearns, director of Boise's Got Faith. "They're just very open. 'Here's what we experienced, here's what you can expect, here's my cell phone number text or call me any time.'"
The charity event included a 5k and a fun run, a silent auction and a celebrity "pie-face" auction. Our own Maggie O'Mara took a pie in the face to support local families. She wasn't the only member of the KTVB team there: Will Hall hosted the event and also took a pie in the face.
Since this event started in 2012, more than $350,000 has been raised to help support local families.
