Photos: Strong windstorm blows through Southwest Idaho

The storm brought gusts upwards of 50 miles per hour in some places, causing widespread power outages and knocking down tree branches.

BOISE, Idaho — A strong, hours-long wind storm moved through the region Monday afternoon and evening, knocking out power to hundreds of residents and generally wreaking havoc throughout the area.

With gusts upwards of 50 miles per hour in some places, the storm knocked down branches from trees and sent dust flying through the air.

The wind also prompted a road closure due to low visibility near Parma as crews there battled a brush fire. That fire is now contained.

Another fire, pushed by strong winds, prompted evacuations for several small communities northwest of Cambridge late Monday night.

As of 8 p.m., Idaho Power crews were working to restore power to several thousand customers in the Treasure Valley. Most of the outages, which are spread from Boise to the west of Caldwell, were resolved by 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Dozens of people posted videos and photos of the wild wind storm and its aftermath on the Idaho Weather Watchers Facebook page and the new Near Me feature on the KTVB App.

Near Me is an interactive map showcasing articles and photos by location. Tap here to download our app for Android or Apple phones. When you open the app, look for the "Near Me" tab in the bottom right corner of the app and select "Share with us" to upload your images or videos.
