Coolest day of the week gives way to a quick warm-up

The daily forecast from Idaho's largest, most experienced team of meteorologists.

BOISE, Idaho — A cold front trekked across southern Idaho before sunrise Wednesday, which set the stage for the coolest day of the week as cold air follows the front this afternoon. Moisture with the front was limited, with only some very light rain and snow showers in the central mountains and west central mountains. The kind of showers that you can see in the distance, but are rather low impact.

Sunshine was plentiful across the region today, but so was a chilly northwest wind, with gusts exceeding 50 mph in Twin Falls. Other max wind gusts were around 30 - 35 mph in other valley locations, and even McCall saw a wind gust as strong as 30 mph. Wind chills early Wednesday morning were down into the 20s across the Treasure Valley, and with high temperatures only rose into the mid-50s this afternoon, it felt more like 30s and 40s throughout the day.

With cold air and clear skies in place tonight, Thursday morning will be frigid and frosty, with temperatures likely down below freezing in Boise as the sun rises tomorrow. Good news is, a warming trend kicks off tomorrow too, with high temps climbing back into the low 60s by Thursday afternoon, into the mid-60s with sunshine on Friday, then back up into the 70s to kick off the weekend on Saturday. Slightly cooler and breezy again Sunday as a quick-hitting disturbance moves through but mild conditions return early next week.
