Second cold front bringing showers and isolated thunderstorms tonight & overnight, lower temps and windy conditions tomorrow

The daily forecast from Idaho's largest, most experienced team of meteorologists.

BOISE, Idaho — Get ready for more moisture! Tonight, a cold front will be moving through the region, bringing showers and isolated thunderstorms. Gusty winds, lightning, and localized downpours are all possible where thunderstorms pop up.

Not everyone will be seeing rain tonight, western Treasure Valley spots are not favored, but that doesn't mean it will stay completely dry in all areas. As of right now, the front is still off the West Coast, along with a low pressure center. The front will continue to trek eastward tonight, but showers will be popping up ahead of the main front. Already there have been light showers in eastern Oregon.

The strength of showers and thunderstorms will increase with the frontal passage, which looks like it will be mostly in the late night / overnight hours. Though Magic Valley and central mountain areas may still see stronger showers early tomorrow morning.

Most of Thursday was quite pleasant with sun, clouds, and breezy conditions across the area. Winds were a little stronger at times, with gusts of 30-40mph across the Treasure and Magic Valleys.

The first - and mostly dry - cold front marched across southern Idaho before sunrise Thursday, triggering a few isolated rain showers in the Magic Valley and eastern Oregon. Temperatures dropped a bit, but still Boise warmed to near 70° under a mostly sunny sky, though the wind made it feel cooler.

The biggest headline for the final day of the work week will be the wind. Gusts of 50mph are possible in the Twin Falls area, which could be damaging, and brisk 30-40mph northwesterly winds are likely in the Treasure Valley as the low-pressure system departs to the east.

The pool of cool air coming in behind Friday's front will drop temperatures down into the mid-60s, a hair below normal, but we'll start rebounding a bit over the weekend with temps back into the upper 60s in Boise by Sunday. The weekend carries a slim chance of some pop-up showers on Saturday and a cool breeze will persist, but pretty nice overall with mostly dry conditions and plenty of sun.
