The city of Nampa will begin detouring traffic to 7th Street South on Sunday evening.

The change is intended to speed up a construction project on 2nd Street South and 3rd Street South, according to a news release from the office of Nampa Mayor Debbie Kling.

Crews are excavating the roadway bed on the north side of 3rd Street and upgrading utilities on 2nd Street.

The rebuilds on 2nd and 3rd streets are needed to improve severely deteriorated pavement, the mayor’s office says. Also, sidewalk corners will be improved to fit Downtown Historic Streetscape standards and to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The $2.8 million project is scheduled to be complete in late August.

Access to businesses will remain open during all phases of construction.

To encourage people to continue to shop in downtown Nampa, a weekly “Cash Mob” promotional campaign is taking place during the project.

Customers who shop during the Cash Mob can win gift cards for any merchant downtown by posting pictures of themselves or their purchases on the Downtown Nampa Facebook page.
