BOISE, Idaho — Interstate 84 will be completely closed down near milepost 64 at 11:30 p.m. Monday until Idaho Power crews repair downed power lines, according to Idaho State Police.

The powerlines went down at about 8 p.m. Monday and forced all eastbound lanes of Interstate 84 to close down near milepost 64.

The Idaho Transportation Department, Idaho State Police, and Ada and Elmore county sheriffs' offices are working to divert traffic off of the interstate.

Westbound traffic will be diverted off the interstate at the Simco Road exit, while eastbound traffic will be diverted at the Eiseman Road exit, police say.

Officials said Idaho Power crews are working remove the power lines but don't know when the interstate will reopen and will need to work on both sides of the interstate to get power lines back up.

Drivers should expect delays and avoid driving on that stretch of the interstate until crews repair the power lines.

It is unknown what caused the power lines to fall down onto the freeway.

This is a developing story and this article will be updated when further information is made available.
