BOISE, Idaho — Several former high school prep athletes are headed to play in March Madness tournaments, including the NCAA Tournament and the NIT.
NCAA Tournament
Men's
Paul Pennington (Boise '18) - Gonzaga
- Though Pennington is redshirting this season, the freshman has suited up and traveled with the Bulldogs. They face the winner of Fairleigh Dickinson vs. Prairie A&M in the first round in Salt Lake City.
Women's
Destiny Slocum (Mountain View '16) - Oregon State
- Slocum and the No. 4 seeded Oregon State Beavers (24-7) will host the No. 13 seeded Boise State Broncos (26-4) in Corvallis in the first round of the tournament on Saturday, March 23.
Abby Mangum (Eagle '17) - BYU
- Mangum appeared in eight games this season for BYU (25-6). They'll face No. 10 Auburn (22-9) in Palo Alto, California Saturday, March 23 at 1:30 p.m. MDT. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
NIT Tournament
Men's
Isaiah Wright (Borah '15) - University of San Diego
- The Toreros (21-14) are headed to a postseason tournament for the first time in school history thanks in part to senior Isaiah Wright. The two-time Idaho Gatorade player of the year transferred to USD after playing for Utah during his freshman season. This season, Wright has started in all but five games this season, averaging 13.8 points per game. They'll face Memphis Tuesday, March 19 at 5 p.m. MDT on ESPN3.
Women's
Issy Hadden (Boise '16) & Janie King (Eagle '18) - University of Idaho
- The 2019 Big Sky Conference regular season champs (20-11) bowed out of the conference tournament early but were able to secure a bid to the WNIT, where they'll face Loyola-Marymount in California on Thursday, March 21.
- Hadden appeared in every game for the Vandals this season, averaging 6.2 points per game.
- King played in 23 games this season, averaging 3.2 points per game.
