BOISE, ID - NOVEMBER 16: Guard Dontelius Ross #5 of the Jackson State Tigers and guard Pat Dembley #13 of the Boise State Broncos chase a ball out of bounds during second half action on November 16, 2018 at Taco Bell Arena in Boise, Idaho. Boise State won the game 70-53.

Boise State junior point guard Pat Dembley served a one-game suspension for something head coach Leon Rice described as "attitude detrimental to the team," on Thursday.

The university made the announcement less than one hour before tip-off of Boise State's 67-57 victory over Alabama State at Taco Bell Arena.

"He's new to what we do and there's a standard that we live up to here. If you don't live up to the standard, it's my job to teach you how to," explained Rice in his post-game press conference. "One of the greatest motivators is playing - especially for guys that love to play."

This is the second time that Dembley has been suspended this season. He also missed the Broncos' exhibition game against Vanguard on Nov. 5 as the result of an arrest just days after he arrived on campus back in June.

Dembley is in his first season at Boise State. He transferred from Iowa Western Community College where he earned NJCAA All-American honors as a sophomore last year.

The Minneapolis, Minnesota native started four the first eight games for the Broncos this season, and averaged 9.1 points and 2.8 assists.

"We got guys that are working really hard together. I want to make sure that we're all together," said Rice. "It's about 'we', it's never about 'me.' Pat is a competitor. He wants to learn and he wants to get better. That's what we're going to help him do.

"He's going to be fine," Rice added. "We're going to get him right."

Rice confirmed that Dembley will play when the Broncos travel to Eugene on Saturday to take on the Oregon Ducks.
