When officers tried to take robbery suspects into custody, the teen allegedly pulled out a gun.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A 13-year-old boy was killed in Columbus on Wednesday evening in a police-involved shooting.

It all started around 7:42 p.m. when officers responded to the area of S. 18th and E. Capital streets to reports of an armed robbery involving multiple suspects.

Officers in the area saw three men on Hoffman Street matching the description and tried to talk to them.

Two of the men ran away, but officers followed them to a nearby alley.

When officers tried to take the suspects into custody, one of them -- a 13-year-old boy -- allegedly pulled a gun from his waistband.

That's when an officer fired and hit the teen multiple times.

The teen, identified as Tyree King, died at the hospital at 8:22 p.m.

Investigators later determined Tyree was holding a BB gun with an attached laser sight.

According to police, the officer who fired the shots is a nine-year veteran of the force.

The officers involved will receive mandated psychological counseling.

Nobody else was hurt.

Additional suspects are being sought. Anybody with information is being urged to call Columbus police at 614-645-4624.
