A woman has been issued a summons after a video that apparently showed her dumping trash from her car in a liquor store parking lot went viral on Facebook earlier this week -- leading to a combination of social media vigilante justice and a larger discussion about Colorado transplants.
A spokesperson for Wheat Ridge Police said they've been able to identify the woman and issue her a summons, but that hasn't stopped the video from continuing to make the rounds in the community.
Wheat Ridge Police initially said the woman had been cited, but that has since been essentially upgraded to a summons.
The video, which was published on the Woodland Park Underground Facebook page on Dec. 10, claims to show the woman littering in the parking lot of Applejack Wine and Spirits, a popular liquor store near Interstate 70 and West 32nd Avenue.
As of Tuesday morning, it had received more than 19,000 shares – and prompted comments from numerous self-proclaimed Colorado natives who took particular issue with the woman’s Texas license plate.
“Just because you are not in Texas anymore does not mean you can just trash Colorado,” the original post reads. “… #Texas woman trashing Colorado. #KeepitClean #DontMessWithColorado #MakeHerFamous.”

Numerous Texas transplants commented on the video to defend their state and condemn the woman’s behavior.
The attention the post has garnered prompted a response from Wheat Ridge Police on Monday saying that community service officers took a report regarding the incident.
“We know we share a sense of pride for our community with those who live, work and play in Wheat Ridge, and appreciate information about individuals who don’t share our concern for keeping our city clean,” a Facebook post from the Wheat Ridge Police Department reads.
