WENDELL, Idaho -- A woman died early Thursday morning after she was struck by a semi on Interstate 84 near Wendell.
The collision happened at 1:48 a.m. at about milepost 158.
Idaho State Police say 57-year-old Cynthia J. Mead of Idaho Falls was walking east in the right lane when she was hit. The driver of the semi, 60-year-old Robert Pierce of Reno Nevada, could not see Mead on the highway because of a curve on the road.
He was unable to stop in time, and crashed into her. Mead died from her injuries at the scene.
It's unclear why Mead was walking on the roadway. The crash blocked both eastbound lanes for about three hours.
Twin Falls County Sheriff's Office, Gooding County Sheriff's Office, Idaho Transportation Department, and Wendell Quick Response Unit assisted with the investigation.
