Special Memorial Day ceremony held at Gowen Field

It's a special time for our service members and their families.

BOISE, Idaho — The playing of taps rang out at Gowen Field Wednesday morning at the Idaho National Guard's annual Memorial Day dedication ceremony.

The event is to honor those who have served and made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country.

It's a special time for our service members and their families.

During the ceremony at Gowen Field Memorial Park, there was a joint color guard, singing of the national anthem, and a cannon salute by the Idaho Military Museum.

“What we are doing out here is to honor those Americans and we can't let the public forget where we came from and the price that has been paid for us to live, to have freedom, and to have the choices we do in our lives today,” said retired Army Col. Rick Johnson. “It’s a great honor to be part of that and help remember who these great Americans were who gave their lives for our freedom.”

Bricks and benches purchased throughout the year were also dedicated in honor of our fallen military members.
