MOUNTAIN HOME -- A man is dead and a deputy is injured after a Monday night attack in a Mountain Home trailer park.

The suspect was identified Tuesday afternoon by the Elmore County Sheriff's Office as 31-year-old Aaron M. Thompson.

According to Elmore County Sheriff Mike Hollinshead, a deputy and an officer from the Mountain Home Police Department were called out to the Rose Garden Trailer Park in northwest Mountain Home just before 11:30 p.m.

Law enforcement was responding to a report that a man with a gun was in the area. When they arrived on the scene, they approached a man who matched the description of the armed person.

According to the sheriff's office, Thompson attacked the deputy and officer, and the deputy was stabbed several times. Both he and the officer fired rounds at the man, authorities say.

Thompson died at the scene, the sheriff says. It's unclear whether he was killed by the officer or deputy's bullets, or if he took his own life.

The deputy was taken to St. Luke's Elmore Hospital with non life-threatening wounds. He was released after receiving treatment.

The incident remains under investigation.
