A section of the Boise River Greenbelt that has seen multiple closures in recent years reopened on Tuesday, July 2, 2019.

BOISE, Idaho — A stretch of the Boise River Greenbelt that was closed after sustaining severe flood damage more than two years ago has reopened.

The newly-rebuilt section is on the north side of the river and connects Veterans Memorial Park to Esther Simplot Park.

Historic flooding in the spring of 2017 caused damage throughout the 50-mile Greenbelt, shutting some sections down for months.

The flood waters saturated the ground for long periods of time, causing bank erosion in some places.

The stretch between the two popular parks reopened months later, but was closed again last year during construction work on the Boise Whitewater Park.
