Teen Retail program supplies teens in need with new clothing

The Assistance League of Boise works with school districts to identify students in need of clothing. More than $140,000 was spent on clothing this year.

BOISE, Idaho — Nearly 1,000 middle school students received new clothes and shoes on Saturday, Feb. 27 thanks to the Assistance League of Boise's Teen Retail Program and JC Penney.

The Assistance League of Boise works with school districts to identify students in need of clothing and shoes. Once identified, those students receive $150 each to spend on new clothes.

The program spent more than $140,000 on clothing for middle school children for the 2020-21 school year.

"Through Teen Retail, we are proud to provide new school clothes to Ada County middle school and junior high students, meeting a very real need in our community," Teen Retail chairman Donna Gudmunson said. "These students deserve to have a positive school experience, and this is one way we can bring a sense of normalcy and excitement to the start of the school year. Seeing the smiles on their faces when they select their clothes and shoes means everything to us."

This marks the seventh year the Assistance League of Boise has provided clothing through the program.
