BOISE COUNTY -- Runners and their cheering fans were lucky Saturday with great conditions for the Race to Robie Creek. Almost four decades of runners taking on what they call the toughest half marathon in the northwest.

"We came in just for Robie from Vancouver, Washington," said Kara Bowman, who ran it with her dad.

They make Robie a father-daughter tradition and they can bond over their training.

"We live a half mile away from each other so we run three to four times a week," Bowman said.

For others, it's a girls' weekend getaway with friends.

"This is my fourth time and I come from Chandler, Arizona each year," said Karen Robinson who ran it with a friend.

Robinson and her friend make Robie, and dressing up for the theme, a tradition. This year they did toad-themed outfits.

"The toad is a little mystery and it was a little bit challenging to dress the theme this year, but we put our best effort into it and had fun with it," Robinson said.

Don Petersick checked off his tenth Race to Robie, and fourth with his friend Dick Adams.

"We're blended at the hip now, we're so bonded, I mean look at this, do we look bonded?" said Petesick with a laugh.

Petersick and Adams say come down from Seattle and Moscow because of the atmosphere and community at Robie.

"There was a guy today and a bunch of people stopped around him, 'are you alright?' because he was bent over and not looking well," said Adams. "It's just amazing how everybody stops and takes care of everybody."
