Opening weekend at Bogus Basin is a dream come true for skiers and staff

The entire mountain will now be open seven days per week, thanks to a storm bringing 28 inches of snow last week.

BOISE — This weekend kicked off the 2018-2019 season at Bogus Basin, thanks to Mother Nature and man-made efforts that brought plenty of snow to the mountain.

"Oh, it’s great, I wasn't expecting it to be so good today," said snowboarder Chance Brewer.

"These are the things you dream of when you run a ski area," said Brad Wilson, the general manager at Bogus Basin. "Early opening, great snow and happy customers."

Thanks to 28 inches of real snow last week, Wilson says his crews have barely used the brand new six-million-dollar snowmaking equipment.

"We did get to try it out, we used about three million gallons of water and had a chance to run the guys through the process," Wilson said. "We're refilling the pond right now and when we need to this season we will make some more snow."

The opening weekend wasn't just for skiers and boarders.

"We have the mountain coaster, it's open Friday through Sunday and our winter tubing is open Friday through Sunday," Wilson said.

Night skiing will start on Dec 21.

Wilson says if this weekend is a sign of what's to come, it's going to be a great season.

"It couldn't be lining up any better than it is right now," Wilson said.
