Camp Rainbow Gold is throwing in the towel and giving up its pursuit for a permanent camp site near Sun Valley.

Camp Rainbow Gold serves Idaho children with cancer and their families and had hoped to make Blaine County home to a retreat center for that purpose. But Blaine County resisted.

County commissioners denied a conditional use permit in November, and then again in December on appeal.

The permit was required to build the camp's proposed permanent site on the 260 acres already in escrow near Sun Valley.

The camp's board of directors intends to start their search for a new site, and in the meantime will continue to run camps at its leased facility at Cathedral Pines in the Sawtooth Mountains.
