Nampa Fire Chief Phil Roberts has announced he is retiring from his post.

NAMPA, Idaho — Nampa Fire Chief Phil Roberts is resigning as of April 1st.

Mayor Debbie Kling and the city council accepted his resignation this week.

Roberts says he believes it is best for him to be close to his family, adding that his aging parents need care and he wants to spend time with his grandbabies.

Roberts has been Nampa fire chief since December 2016.

He began working with the city as fire marshal in 2015.

Kling plans to recommend that Deputy Chief of Operations Kirk Carpenter be Nampa's next fire chief.
