MALHEUR COUNTY -- A driver died and four other people were hospitalized after a head-on collision on Highway 95 in eastern Oregon Saturday afternoon.
The crash happened at 2:45 p.m. near milepost 97 in Malheur County.
According to Oregon State Police, 19-year-old Jaila Aguilera-Pinder of Las Vegas was driving north in a Ford Focus when she attempted to pass a commercial vehicle in a no-passing zone.
Aguilera-Pinder's car was still in the southbound lane when her car hit an oncoming Ford Escape head-on.
The driver of the Escape, 33-year-old Victor Dunkelberger of Rocklin, California, died from his injuries at the scene.
Aguilera-Pinder, her passenger 25-year-old Keilin Alfonso-Vaquero of Las Vegas, and Dunkelberger's passenger 27-year-old Ayna Anderson of Rocklin, were all airlifted to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise.
A child passenger in Dunkelberger's car was also taken to Saint Alphonsus by ground ambulance.
The wreck remains under investigation by Oregon State Police.
