CALDWELL, Idaho — All lanes of Interstate 84 have been reopened after a series of crashes that snarled traffic for hours.
The issues began around 11:30 a.m., when a dump truck rolled in the westbound lanes near the Franklin/Caldwell exit.
According to Idaho State Police, 54-year-old William Rubenacker of Bonners Ferry was driving west when the truck went off the right shoulder. Rubenacker overcorrected, swerving back onto the road, where the dump truck overturned.
The toppled truck ended up lying on its side in the roadway, blocking all lanes and bringing traffic to a standstill.
The congestion and slowing cars led to multiple additional wrecks in Nampa, causing even more blocked lanes and slowdowns.
Nampa Police cautioned motorists to avoid the interstate entirely while crews worked to clear the crashes. Traffic began to move slowly at about 1:30 p.m., according to police, and all lanes were reopened by about 2:45 p.m.
Rubenacker was taken to the hospital by ambulance. He was wearing a seatbelt when the crash happened, police say.
