Ketchum man dies after being pulled from flooded basement

KETCHUM - A Ketchum man died after he was found unconscious while working in the flooded basement of a home on Wednesday, officials said.

KETCHUM - A Ketchum man died after he was found unconscious while working in the flooded basement of a home on Wednesday, officials said.

According to the Blaine County Sheriff's Office, a rescue team from Ketchum Fire pulled 54-year-old Mike J. Wirth from about six feet of water, began CPR and took him to St. Luke's Wood River Hospital, where he died.

The incident happened at about 11 a.m. on Wednesday at a home on Eagle Creek Road, north of Ketchum.

Wirth was the owner of a landscape company, and was assisting the home's residents with flooding in their basement. The residents called 911 after hearing Wirth calling for help.

The sheriff's office said the cause of death is still undetermined, and that the death is currently under investigation.
