We now know what caused the fire that destroyed a Meridian home on Friday night.
According to the Meridian Fire Department, the fire started due to a cigarette or other smoking material that was not disposed of properly.
The fire started in the backyard of the home on the 1800 block Lonesome Dove Street and moved into the attic.

Two dogs and a snake were rescued.
A falling piece of drywall injured a firefighter. He was treated at a Boise hospital and released. He is expected to make a full recovery.
