Idaho State researchers create ‘weird, weird beastie’

They have created a one-of-a-kind replica of an ancient shark.

POCATELLO, Idaho — The Idaho Museum of Natural History in Pocatello has created a one-of-a-kind replica of an ancient shark.

The skull of the ancient scissor-toothed shark known as Edestus is what researchers are calling a "weird, weird beastie."

They say the shark disappeared more than 300 million years ago during the late Paleozoic era.

And the reason they call the shark a “weird beastie” is because the teeth inside the jaws of the shark are curved and look like scissors blades.

The museum tells us this is the only physical example of the scissor-toothed shark skull in the world.
