BOISE, Idaho — As the Treasure Valley grows, many of the people who already live here are raising their voices in defense of what they believe makes this area so special.
At the Boise Planning and Zoning Commission meeting on Monday night, commissioners considered the proposed Prominence housing development in northwest Boise.
The project would have put 156 single-family homes and 130 apartments or townhomes on nearly 40 acres near Bogart Lane and Hill Road.
Public comments against the project included concerns about increased traffic, sprawl, loss of open space, and a desire to preserve nature close to home.
After listening to more than three hours of public testimony Monday night, the Boise Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously to recommend denial of the application.
Issues on which commissioners expressed concern included fire response time to the area, increased traffic, distance from public transportation, the density of the project (about eight homes per acre), and no mixed-use development in the proposed subdivision.
The project will now go before the Boise City Council for a final vote.
