The Gem State's population is going up - and not just from everyone moving in from other states.

Idaho recorded a total of 22,159 births in 2017, according to data released Monday by the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. Those new additions are down slightly from 22,462 the year before.

The 76-page report is packed with stats, from the average age of first-time Idaho mothers (26.6) to the teen pregnancy rate: 1,105 live births, down 7.7 percent from the year before.

IDHW also tracks the names Idahoans bestow on their new babies, compiling both a most-popular list and a list of some of the most unusual.
