Freedom Truck Convoy passes through Boise

"American Freedom Convoy", organized by Health Freedom Idaho, passed through the state on their way to Washington D.C.

BOISE, Idaho — The American Freedom Convoy made their way through Boise on I-84, Wednesday afternoon, en route to Washington D.C.

The purpose of the convoy is to protest vaccine mandates and to show support for re-opening the country by "lifting all mandates and ending the state of emergency" related to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a news release.

The convoy drew a diverse crowd of supporters including Idaho Lt. Governor, Janice McGeachin, who spoke at the event.

The demonstration is one of several being organized in the U.S. and was modeled after the recent trucker protests that occurred in Ottawa, Canada, which shut down the U.S.-Canadian border crossings for weeks.

The People's Convoy leaders call themselves a "peaceful and unified transcontinental movement" of truck drivers, according to a news release.

The convoy, which began in Adelanto, California on Wednesday, Feb. 23, is on its way to the Capital Beltway, an interstate highway that surrounds Washington D.C. The group says they're hoping to arrive by Saturday.
