In Boise, a maternity nurse became the first person to give birth at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center.

The hospital says labor and delivery RN Baylee Swift was working the night of December 31, expecting her second child to come January 10. Part way through her shift she experienced labor pains and knew the baby wasn't going to wait.

At 4:14 a.m. daughter Oaklee was born, weighing 6 pounds 9 ounces and 20 inches long.

"The other nurses on the night shift were joking about me having the New Year's baby, and it happened," Swift said. "It is wonderful to have my work family being a part of this experience and for me to see it from the other side. It was a great experience."
