WEISER -- A fire tore through an apartment building in Weiser Sunday afternoon, briefly trapping some residents and badly damaging multiple units.
The fire was reported just before 2 p.m. at the Wildwood Apartments on 7th Street, on the west side of town.
Video posted by Weiser City Fire and Rescue shows orange flames leaping from both floors of the building.
Fire Chief Kerry Nyce said a Weiser Police officer who helped residents escape the burning building needed treatment for smoke inhalation, but everyone in the apartments made it out safely.
Fire crews from Weiser, Payette, Ontario, and Vale all pitched in to fight the flames.
Three of the apartment units are a total loss, with five more remaining intact, Nyce said. The American Red Cross is assisting two families.
Fire investigators determined the cause of the fire to be electrical.
