ADA COUNTY — ADA COUNTY - The Ada County Sheriff's Office said a 43-year-old Emmett woman died after a crash that happened August 10 on Highway 16.

The Ada County coroner said Kathy Jo Jennings died from her injuries in the crash that happened around 12:30 a.m. near Firebird Raceway.

Sheriff's officials said Jennings was driving south in a Chevrolet Suburban, just south of the Gem County border, when she lost control of the vehicle. She crossed over the road and across the northbound lane, then crashed into a backhoe parked off the side of the highway.

Damage to the vehicle was severe, and emergency crews had to cut through metal to remove Jennings from the wreckage. No one else was in the Suburban.

Jennings was transported by air ambulance to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, where she later died.

The coroner said toxicology results are pending, and that it may take several weeks to receive them.

The Ada County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
