‘Don't be a turkey, give a turkey’ campaign kicks off

Kevin Miller hopes to gather 5,000 turkeys for the Boise Rescue Mission.

'Tis the season of giving and reaching out to those in need.

You may remember in years past a special fundraising campaign, "Don't be a turkey, give a turkey" that's led by KIDO radio morning show host Kevin Miller.

Starting today he is camping out in front of the Walmart off of Garrity Boulevard and Franklin Road in Nampa in an effort to support the Boise Rescue Mission's Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday banquets.

Miller will collect frozen turkeys, non-perishable food and cash for the next six days.

He says 5,000 turkeys are needed to feed Treasure Valley families, and so far they are halfway to that goal.

"Every time the weather gets cold, I think 'By the grace of God, what would I do?' Well, thankfully we have the Boise Rescue Mission. But, this is where your funds help keep, help protect, and help our Treasure Valley family members make a difference. So, that's where we ask people to step up,” said Miller.

Donations can be made at the Nampa Walmart store on Garrity until this Saturday from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Donations can also be dropped off at Townsquare Media office or any rescue mission facility.

You can also purchase turkey bucks from any Treasure Valley Walmart for $15 to help feed an entire family this holiday season.
