Dogs allowed to be off-leash in two Boise parks

The seasonal off-leash program in Ann Morrison Park and Optimist Youth Sports Complex starts on Friday.

BOISE, Idaho — Starting this Friday, you can let your dog go off leash in two Boise parks.

Boise Parks and Recreation says Ann Morrison Park and Optimist Youth Sports Complex will once again become off-leash dog areas. The seasonal off-leash program is intended to prevent long-term damage and address health and safety concerns caused by geese.

All areas of the parks are available for off-leash dog use from sunrise to sunset, with the exception of Boise River Greenbelt paths, parking lots, roads and playgrounds.

The dog island at Ann Morrison Park will remain open during the winter. Water in the ponds surrounding the island will be drawn down. Signs are posted warning users of unsafe ice as it gets colder.

Of course, owners are reminded to pick up after their pets.

The program will run through the end of February.
