BOISE — A Kuna woman has claimed the top prize of $100,000 in the Idaho Lottery’s Hot Ticket sweepstakes.

Katie McAuley says one Saturday afternoon in early August she stopped at the Liquor Store on Meridian Road just south of Overland Road to pick up a few items. While at the cash register, on a whim, she decided to buy a $5 sweepstakes ticket. That turned out to be a very lucky decision.

The game ended on Monday, August 20. On Thursday afternoon, McAuley was using a smart phone app to check some scratch game tickets when she noticed the drawing for the sweepstakes numbers had occurred a few days earlier.

“I was already checking my other tickets, so I checked this one, too. It didn’t tell me how much I’d won, only that I needed to contact the Lottery,” explained McAuley. “I only buy tickets every once in a while and I haven’t been very lucky until now.”

McAuley says she plans to support her family and pay off some bills with her winnings.
