MERIDIAN, Idaho — A 4-year-old boy is receiving treatment after police say he nearly drowned during a family trip to the pool Monday.
The accident happened shortly after 3 p.m. at a neighborhood's community pool in the 3800 block of Woodville Drive, south of Hillsdale Elementary.
According to Meridian Police Deputy Chief Tracy Basterrechea, the boy and his family were visiting the area from Washington state. The 4-year-old was playing in the shallow end of the pool when he stepped too far and ended up in a deeper area where he could not touch bottom, Basterrechea said.

Police say the child was floating facedown in the water for several minutes before a girl spotted him and alerted adults. A man jumped into the pool, pulled the boy out and began CPR.
A Meridian Police officer arrived on scene and took over CPR on the unresponsive child until paramedics arrived, Basterrechea said.
The boy was rushed to a local hospital, where he remains in the intensive care unit as of Tuesday afternoon. The child's exact condition and prognosis have not been released.
