Dig Chrismer, Schweitzer’s marketing manager, said staff members will decide on a name when the puppy arrives.

The new puppy will spend the summer growing and getting acquainted to her Idaho home before training as an avalanche dog next winter. Chrismer said the process for receiving that designation is a long one that includes many certifications.

She said Schweitzer is lucky to have the dogs, as they help bring awareness to avalanche rescue dogs and search and rescue in general.

“The dogs are fantastic. They’re just great to have around,” she added.
