With Christmas just around the corner, a lot of you might be wondering when you'll be able to hit the slopes at your favorite ski resorts.

One resort that is crossing their fingers for snow this weekend is Bogus Basin. Right now, only limited areas at the resort are open - which is a different picture from the start of the season last year.

"We can open this mountain in 24 hours, we have most everything in place," said JJ McLeod, Director of Mountain Events at Bogus.

They only thing they're waiting for now is Mother Nature.

"It's not going to take much to turn the key," McLeod said. "We're looking pretty good. Everywhere on the mountain we have a solid frozen base."

Bogus can open on at least 13 inches of snow, which is what they had earlier than this time last year.

"Right now we're sitting on about 8 to 9 inches," McLeod said. "We know what it takes to get this place open on minimal snow, we've been doing it for years. We're not overly nervous yet, it's still early December."

The lack of snow has made working on a major project, the mountain coaster, a little bit easier.

"At the same token we need to spin the chairs and so it's kind of just give and take," said McLeod.

While they wait for snow, McLeod says the main building for the mountain coaster is about two weeks away from completion.

"On the track itself it's all the fine details that we're working through," said McLeod.

For now, the tubing hill is open on weekends, the hike and terrain park is open during the week and they're blowing snow on Coach's Corner.

"It's not going to take much," said McLeod. "If we got a foot of snow we could definitely open most of the front side for sure."

McLeod says the resort usually opens sometime between December 10 and 20. He says hopefully they will be able to begin ski school this coming weekend.
